Sonic Drilling - Overview
Glacier Drilling is pleased to offer Sonic Drilling rig capabilities. When accurate, representative soil sampling is paramount, or difficult conditions are present such as dense soils, fill and bedrock, sonic drilling can be an effective tool and the preferred drilling method.
Its true, Sonic drilling is by far the best soil sampling method going. The vibration of the tool string enhances the cutting action of the tooling bit. Coring soils, gravels, rocks with minimum disturbance to the formation makes this method incredibly accurate. You will literally see the strata changes like never before with high quality large diameter (6”) cores and minimal disturbance. With Sonic rigs, you can set wells with a better gravel pack and seal with flush joint casings.
We have recently added to our Sonic Drilling options and now offer both Geoprobe® 8140LS & Geoprobe® 8150LS model drill rigs. The 8140 offers a small footprint and can achieve depths up to 150 feet. The 8150 is a more powerful rig with 50K dyanmic force, and thus offers much greater depths of up to 300 feet and beyond. Our 8150 also has a high speed coring head for wireline core drilling, as well as a 140 lb. auto hammer for ASTM split spoon samples. Each of these machines are supported with their own dedicated tracked bobcat which assist projects with tool handling and soil and water transfers to roll offs or frac tanks.
